Miraculous Medal of Mary

Rules for Wearing Miraculous Medal

In 1830, at the Catholic convent of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, in Paris, France, the Blessed Virgin appeared three times to a humble and pious novice, Sister Catherine Labouré. On all three occasions, Catherine saw the Blessed Virgin, received messages, and was treated with loving and maternal care.

FIRST APPEARANCE: Catherine, the visionary of the Blessed Virgin Mary spoke to her confessor that around 11:30 on the night of July 18. Then, she heard someone calling her name: “Sister Labouré, Sister Labouré come to the chapel. the Blessed Virgin awaits”!!!

The one calling her was an excited small boy. He himself led her to the chapel.

Catherine began to pray and after hearing a noise similar to the rubbing of a silk dress, she saw the Blessed Virgin sitting next to the Altar. Catherine went to her, fell to her knees, resting her hands on the knees of the Blessed Virgin and heard a voice that said to her: “My daughter, God wants to entrust you with a mission … you will have to suffer, but you will endure it because what you are going to to do will be for the Glory of God. You will be contradicted, but you will have thanks. Do not fear. “

The Blessed Virgin pointed to the foot of the Altar and recommended that Catherine go there in moments of sorrow to vent her heart because there, she said, the graces that young and old ask with confidence and simplicity will be poured out.

SECOND APPEARANCE: This is the apparition in which the Blessed Virgin communicates to her seer the message that she wants to convey. This apparition has three distinct moments:

Catherine told her confessor that at the time of prayer at around 5:30 in the afternoon of November 27, she again heard the noise similar to the rubbing of silk and saw the Blessed Virgin.

First moment (The Virgin of the globe): The Blessed Virgin was standing on the middle of a globe, crushing a snake with her feet. She had a closed aurora silk dress, plain sleeves; a white veil covered her head and fell on both sides of her. In her hands, at her chest level, she held a globe with a small cross on top of it. The Blessed Virgin offered this globe to the Lord, with a pleading tone. Her fingers had rings with stones, some of which gave off light and some did not. The Blessed Virgin lowered her gaze. And Catherine heard: “This globe that you see represents the world and each one in particular. The rays of light are the symbol of the graces that I obtain for those who ask me. The stones that do not throw rays, are the graces that they stop asking me “: The globe disappeared.

Second moment (Obverse of the medallion): When the globe disappeared, the hands of the Blessed Virgin extended resplendent with light towards the earth, the beams of light did not allow her feet to be seen. An oval frame formed around the Blessed Virgin and in a semicircle, starting at the level of the right hand, passing over the head of the Blessed Virgin and ending at the level of the left hand, it read:

“OH MARY WITHOUT SIN CONCEIVED, PRAY FOR US, THAT WE COME TO YOU”

Catherine heard a voice say to her: “Have a medal struck according to this model, the people who wear it around their necks will receive great graces: the graces will be abundant for the people who wear it with confidence.”

Third moment (The reverse of the Medal): The painting was turned around showing the letter M, crowned with a cross resting on a bar and under the letter M, the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, which Catherine distinguished because one was crowned with thorns and the other pierced a sword. Around the monogram were twelve stars.

THIRD APPEARANCE: During the month of December of the same year, Catherine was favored with a new apparition, similar to that of November 27.

Also during the evening prayer. Catherine again received the order given the Blessed Virgin to have a medal struck, according to the model that she had shown her on November 27, and that she was shown to her again in this apparition. The Blessed Virgin wanted her seer to have very clear the symbolisms of her appearance, that is why she insisted in a special way that the globe that she holds in her hands represents the whole world and each person in particular. ; in which the rays of light that cast the stones from her rings are the graces that She obtains for the people who ask her, that the stones that do not cast rays are the graces that they stop asking of her; that the Altar is the place where young and old must turn, with confidence and simplicity, to vent their sorrows.

After Catherine overcame all the obstacles and contradictions that the Blessed Virgin had announced to her, in 1832, the ecclesiastical authorities approved the minting of the medal. Once minted, it spread quickly.

The miracles obtained through it were so many and so abundant that its meaning became that of the MEDAL that heals, the MEDAL that saves, the MEDAL that works miracles, and finally the MIRACULOUS MEDAL.

MIRACULOUS MEDAL NOVENA

It is prayed at 5 o’clock in the afternoon of November 27, Feast of the Miraculous Medal, and in urgent needs, any day, at that time.

Miraculous Medal Prayer

Oh Immaculate Virgin, we know that you are always and everywhere willing to listen to the powerful prayers of your children exiled in this valley of tears, but we also know that you have days and hours in which you are pleased to spread more abundantly the treasures of your graces.

Well, oh Mary, here we are prostrate before You, precisely on this blessed day and hour, chosen You for the manifestation of your Medal.

We come to You, full of immense gratitude and unlimited trust in this hour for You so dear, to thank You for the great gift that You have given us giving us Your image, so that it may be for us a testimony of affection and a garment of protection.

We promise you that according to your wish, the Holy Medallion will be the sign of your presence with us, it will be our book in which we will learn to know, according to your advice, how much you have loved us, and what we must do so that they are not useless. so many sacrifices of yours and of Your Divine Son.

Yes, Your pierced Heart, represented on the Medal, will always rest on ours and will make it beat in unison with yours. It will ignite you with love for Jesus and will strengthen you to carry the cross behind Him every day.

This is your hour, O Mary, the hour of your inexhaustible goodness, of your triumphant mercy, the hour in which you made flow, through your Medal, that torrent of graces and wonders that flooded the earth.

Do, oh Mother, that this hour that reminds You of the sweet emotion of Your Heart, that prompted You to come visit us and bring us the remedy for so many ills, make this hour also be our hour, the hour of our sincere conversion, and the hour when our vows are fully heard.

You, who have promised precisely in this fortunate hour, how great would be the graces to those who ask for them with confidence: turn your gaze to our supplications benign.

We confess that we do not deserve your graces, but who will we turn to, oh Mary, if not to You, who are our Mother, in whose hands God has placed all his graces?

Then have mercy on us. We ask this for your Immaculate Conception, and for the love that moved you to give us your precious Medal.

O Comforter of the afflicted, who are already touched our miseries, look at the evils that oppress us.

Make your Medal shed your beneficent rays on us and on all our loved ones: heal our sick, give peace to our families, free us from all danger.

Bring your Medal relief to the one who suffers, consolation to the one who cries, light and strength to all. We especially ask you for the conversion of sinners, particularly those who are dearest to us.

Remember that for them you have suffered, you have prayed and you have cried. Save us, oh Refuge of sinners, so that after we have all loved, invoked and served you on earth, we can go to thank you and praise you eternally in Heaven. Amen

Rules for Wearing Miraculous Medal

In 1830, the Virgin Mary presented herself to Saint Catherine Labouré as the Immaculate Conception, and commissioned her to make the Miraculous Medal.

There have been many miracles. The amount of favors that the Mother gave to men and women through these medallions were uncountable.

For a good use of the Miraculous Medal necklace, the following steps should be taken into account:

1) Daily recitation of the Holy Rosary

It is extremely important to have the habit of praying the Holy Rosary devoutly every day. Not only does it open the doors to the presence of Mary in your life, but the life of Christ is meditated on and learned from it.

2) Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin

To do an act of consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, you must devote some time to preparation.

A very popular method is reading 33 Days to Morning Glory, written priest Michael Gaitley. They are 5-minute readings where you meditate on the Virgin Mary.

3) Finally, having the heart prepared, the consecration prayer is made. There are several prayers that you can use, we recommend the following one, made Saint Louis de Montfort:

Miraculous Medal Prayer

I, _________, sinner without faith, renew and ratify today in your hands the vows of my Baptism, I forever renounce Satan, his pomp and his works; and I give myself completely to Jesus Christ, Incarnate Wisdom, to carry my cross after Him every day of my life and to be more faithful to Him than I have ever been before.

In the presence of the entire heavenly court, I choose you on this day as my Mother. I give and consecrate to you, as your slave, my body and my soul, my goods, both internal and material, and even the worth of all my good actions, past, present and future; leaving to you the entire right to dispose of me and everything that belongs to me, without exception, according to your will, for the greater glory of God, in our time and in eternity.

Amen.

4) Wear the medal of the Blessed Miraculous Virgin
Finally, the Miraculous Medal must be worn constantly, as an external demonstration of the consecration made.

7 Miracles of the Miraculous Medal

Every November 27, the Feast of the Virgin of the Miraculous Medal is celebrated, a relatively recent Marian devotion that spread rapidly throughout the world, provoking, on the one hand, a greater love for Mary and on the other, innumerable thanks to the faithful devotees.

On this day 189 years ago, the Virgin Mary appeared to a young nun, Saint Catherine Labouré, and she gave her the gift of the Miraculous Medals to share with everyone. In this apparition the Virgin showed her how this Miraculous Medal should be.

With the permission of the Catholic Church, the first medals were made and distributed in Paris in 1832. Although it was originally known as the Medal of the Immaculate Conception, it was associated with so many miracles and blessings that it eventually became popular as the Miraculous Medal. And many Christians who have it today still experience many of these graces.

These are just seven miracles that have been attributed to the incredible power behind the Miraculous Medals.

Miraculous Medal Testimonies

Miracle on Death Row

One of the most incredible miracles of the Miraculous Medal occurred in a Mississippi jail in 1943. 20-year-old Claude Newman was on death row for shooting his grandmother’s abuser and asked another inmate what he was wearing around the neck.

The intern threw the medal on the ground and told Claude that he could have it.

Shortly after the young man placed the medal around his neck, the Virgin Mary, whom Claude described as the most beautiful woman God had made, appeared to him and told him that if she wanted to be her son, he should ask for a priest. He did it right away.

Along with four other prisoners to whom Claude told his story, he prepared to be baptized. When he shared with the priest and the other men the idea of the deep forgiveness found in Confession, the priest was surprised that the Virgin had visited Claude again.

To show that she was telling the truth she reminded the priest of a 1940 vow she had made to Maria that she would build a church in her honor if she survived a life-threatening situation.

Claude was baptized four days before his scheduled execution date in 1944. Because the young man was so happy to go to heaven, his last request was to hold a party.

The execution was suspended for two weeks and the prisoner was saddened so the priest had to console him. Already on the day of his execution, this young man surprised everyone present being happy while he was placed in the electric chair.

Miraculous Medal Novena

In 1834, just two years after the first copies of the Miraculous Medals were distributed in Paris, news of the medal had traveled all over France. One of the women who knew about them was a 70-year-old widow who had entered the Saint-Maur nursing home after a terrible fall in August 1833. Not only did she have to drag her left leg, but she needed help to walk, and you would find it difficult to sit up and get back up. When she found out about the medal she applied for one and was filled with hope.

As soon as she received it she went to confess. The next day, which was the first Friday of the month, she received the Holy Eucharist and began to pray a miraculous medal novena to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. She also worshiped the medal, which she wore around her neck, 24 hours a day. On the seventh day of the Novena he no longer felt any pain. Everyone in the nursing home was shocked when she began to walk unaided. After receiving this grace he was even able to climb stairs and kneel.

Miraculous Recovery

In 1836 the Miraculous Medal had already surpassed the borders of France and had spread throughout Europe.

In January of that year, a priest in Italy secretly placed a medal under the pillow of a 27-year-old man who had become indifferent about his faith.

Although he was dying of pneumonia he did not want to ask for pardon, repent of his sins or turn his face to God. Since the priest and a chaplain had failed to convince him to do so, the priest gave the young man time to reflect on what they had discussed with him.

Before the priest returned, the young man reconciled with his mother and asked her to call the priest, because he wanted to renounce the sins of his past, be pardoned, and return to his faith.

When the priest showed him the medal and gave it to him, the young man began to kiss it devoutly. With remorse, he confessed his sins and received absolution, and also received the last rites. But to everyone’s amazement he began to feel better and made a full recovery within a few days.

He kept the medal and often kissed it with great devotion and gratitude to God and the Blessed Mother.

Miracle of Sight

Also in 1836 another extraordinary event would take place, in this case in Belgium. Rosalie Ducas, a healthy girl barely four years old, suddenly lost her sight on November 9, 1835.

Losing her sight in this way was traumatic for the little girl, and realizing that she needed heavenly help, the parish priest of Jodoigne- la-Soveraine gave the girl’s mother a Miraculous Medal. On June 11, 1836, the woman placed another medal around her daughter’s neck and began to pray a novena.

After six hours she stopped complaining of pain. On the fourth or fifth day of the novena, Rosalie opened her eyes. The parents were so hopeful that they prayed even more.

To the astonishment of Rosalie, her parents, and the priest, the girl regained her sight on the ninth day of the novena.

Healing of a Mentally Ill Person

At the end of 1837 the Miraculous Medal was well known already around the world, also in China where another extraordinary event took place thanks to the martyr Saint John Gabriel Perboyre, canonized Saint John Paul II, and who while on mission in Ho-Nan gave him the medal to a woman with mental problems.

This saint would later be imprisoned, tortured for about a year, and martyred in 1840 due to his Christian faith. In all that time he was informed other Catholics about the woman to whom he had given the Miraculous Medal. They told the priest that she desperately wanted him to hear her confession. Although it was almost impossible for her to make a coherent confession, he compassionately agreed to listen to her. Although she did not know what she was, the saint gave her the Miraculous Medal so that she could be under the protection of the Blessed Mother. Only four or five days later this woman was completely cured.

The Ice Cream Miracle

Despite the enormous graces that have always accompanied the Miraculous Medal, many in the Church did not really believe in its power. The Jesuit John A. Hardon was one of those people.

Not long after being ordained, a Vincentian religious encouraged him to promote the Miraculous Medal, assuring that the Virgin performs numerous miracles through it. Father Hardon to be educated made a brochure on these medals but never wanted one for himself.

However, in 1948 when the priest from the United States came across a ten-year-old boy who was in a coma after a sledding accident he decided to see if it would be useful.

A sister who worked in the hospital found one as well as a ribbon that the priest could use to hang around the little boy’s neck. Although the boy had permanent and inoperable brain damage, the priest read the prayer that enrolled him in the Brotherhood of the Miraculous Medal.

As soon as he finished the sentence, the boy opened his eyes and asked his mother for ice cream. It was the first time he had spoken in almost two weeks. New X-rays showed that the brain damage had disappeared, and he was released from the hospital after three days. Like the boy and his family, the priest’s life and his belief in the medal were forever changed.

Elevator Miracle

In the 1950s, in then communist Czechoslovakia, a teenager received a Miraculous Medal from a clandestine seminarian.

Despite the risk of wearing religious symbols, this young man decided to place the medal around his neck and wear it while he was working one summer in a construction. When his supervisor told him to take it off, he continued to wear it.

The next day, he fell into a hole that contained the moving motor with wheels, gears and belts of an unsophisticated forklift that allowed construction workers to transport materials to the upper floors of the apartment building being built.

His coworkers managed to get him out and to their amazement they saw that he was unharmed. He was able to get up and keep working. And he fervently believed that it was the protection of the Blessed Mother, received through the medal, that kept him safe.
